What is the Symbol Relations Cognitive Function?

Symbol Relations is a higher-order cognitive function that is responsible for understanding and connecting ideas.

It is involved in tasks that enable an individual to reason using logic and to connect and process complex relationships and concepts simultaneously. It is involved in comprehension across all academic subjects and in life.

Increasing the functionality of the Symbol Relations cognitive function enables the individual to understand and make sense of themselves, of others and their world. These individuals experience an increased ability to learn and understand social and emotional behaviors that were once lost to them.

"I've become the person I am today because of the Arrowsmith Program. There was a time when I couldn't articulate myself. There's a lot of my life when I think back before the program and I try to remember what I couldn't do, and nowadays it seems so simple, so easy. I'm really thankful for the program because I couldn't imagine how my life would have been different because it's a remarkable program, and I'm ever grateful for it."

Isha, Post Secondary Student

"I used to answer questions with questions…I learned that I am not really making those connections, not understanding where they are coming from and what they are trying to convey with them. Now I can make those connections and understand what is being asked of me."
